I leave for California in a little over two weeks, I could not be more thrilled. I have been to Los Angeles once before, but I love the anticipation of seeing and experiencing different places. I am going out for a family wedding (in Malibu! Chi, chi chi!) so visiting with family will take priority over seeing the sights. However, I wanted to share a few different spots that I want to see some day in California, either on this trip or the next!
Go to a TV show taping- This is the media-celebrity-obsessed fangirl in me, but I love anything Hollywood. I think TV tapings are really fun, and there are some great shows that tape in L.A, ‘Hello Ross’, ‘The Ellen Show’, and ‘Dancing With the Stars’ to name a few. I’ve already snagged tickets for an afternoon taping of ‘Chelsea Lately’ that I hope I make it to. Love that feisty lady! I found tickets here: http://www.on-camera-audiences.com/
Visit Griffith Observatory- I have some friends who were recently in Los Angeles who gave me great suggestions on what to see. The Art Deco-style Griffith Observatory, built in the 1930s, boasts stunning views of the city. My friends hiked their way to the top, which they said was one of the best parts of the visit. The film ‘Rebel Without A Cause’ was also filmed here! I’d love to take in the view of LA from above and check out this massive observatory!
Lounge on the Beach – I have received recommendations to visit both Will Rogers State Beach, as well as the slightly further Huntington Beach. The Jersey shore is nice, but it always takes a full day of planning, and at least an hour of driving before you can hit the (often crowded) sand. I hope I can find sometime to relax by the Pacific on this trip!
Take A Studio Tour- Did I mention how much I love celebrities? I am so into entertainment media, I have always been a huge television and movie buff. Taking a studio tour is the one thing I most want to do on this trip to LA. I have been researching the Paramount, Warner Brothers, Sony, and Universal tours. Currently, I have my sights set on the Warner Brothers Tour because it seems to have the most television sets I would like to see: Friends, The Big Bang Theory, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and Gilmore Girls. I would eventually like to go on them all. I really love film history and old movies, so Paramount is second on my must-see list!
Visit the Getty Center- Another great recommendation from friends, the Getty Center is a part of the Getty Museum that has fine architecture, art, and gardens overlooking the city. This normally would not be very high on my list, but my friends enjoyed it more than they thought they would, lauding it as “one of the most memorable museums ever!” I love a good museum, so hopefully I get a chance to check it out!
Other sights I have seen and loved in California include the Santa Monica Pier, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Grauman’s Chinese Theater, a tour of the Kodak Theater, and driving up Mulholland Road to Laurel Canyon. Do you have any suggestions for must-see California Sights? Share them with me below, I love suggestions from fellow friends and travelers!!
