Fashion Friday: The Best Oscar Looks of All Time
I have a serious red-carpet award show obsession. I never miss it! This year there is bound to be some good looks on the red carpet this Sunday for the Oscars. I cannot WAIT to see what style maven Lupito N’yongo will wear! Until then, I wanted to recap some of my favorite Oscar looks of all time!
There are a few dresses I think of when I think, “Best Oscar Dress of All Time” and one of them is Michelle Williams in the canary-colored Vera Wang dream at the 2006 Oscars. Her dreamy updo, the handsome Heath Ledger on her arm-may he rest in peace-and that bold lip color. Everything about this look was perfect.
A few years before that Jennifer Lopez wore a mint green one-shoulder Valentino gown that to this day, I cannot think of any other red carpet dress that looks like it. Jennifer Lopez often wears glammy skin-tight sequin gowns, but I don’t think she has ever looked better than the Oscar red carpet in 2003.
I am sorry, I know it is practically a cliche at this point, but no list of the Best Oscar Looks Of All Time would be complete without Gwyneth Paltrow in pink Ralph Lauren. 1999 looked good on Gwyneth!
A practice in minimalism, Angelina Jolie stunned in black and emerald on the red carpet in 2009. The look made such an impression, I distinctly remember my friend and I going to the mall a few weeks later, because my friend wanted to pick up a black dress and emerald earrings to go with it, “like Angelina!” for an event she was attending. She looked like perfection that night.
When I said of all time, I really meant it. Let’s reach way, way back to see some other great looks, such as Elizabeth Taylor in a lavender gown in 1970. There is still no movie star as glamorous to replace Elizabeth Taylor. She wore one of her all-time greatest gems, the 69 carat Taylor-Burton diamond. To die for!
Another glamor girl of an era gone-by, Audrey Hepburn, makes my list of the Best Oscar Looks of All Time! Hepburn was divine in a white floral Givenchy, a radiant beacon of light. This dress is a total classic.
Call me crazy, but one of my personal favorite Oscar looks will always be Barbra Streisand in that sheer black and white pantsuit with a collar. Back in the days where not every celebrity had their own celebrity stylist, choices were much more unique. I think it’s fun, and it is just how I like to remember Streisand!
