2014 Golden Globes Red Carpet

As all of my long-time readers know, I love awards season! This year there were so many good movies out, making the award season very competitive. Couple that with goddesses Tina Fey and Amy Poheler hosting the Golden Globes for the second time, and you have a recipe for perfection! The red carpet is obviously the best part, and this year the 2014 Golden Globes did not disappoint!

There were so many interesting looks this year that I have a lot to say! I want to dive right in with one of the most unique looks, worn by Emma Watson! Watson is becoming a serious fashion maven! The dress-pants situation was Dior couture, and I thought it was so fresh and young! Her hair and makeup were perfection. I did not care one bit that she was wearing pants because the back of that look was beautiful! The silhouette was really unique and the coral-ey red looked beautiful on her. If I had it to do over I would have picked different shoes. Other than that, LOVE the look.

I thought she looked adorable!!

Pregnancy chic was a big theme last night. The twitter-sphere did not seem to be feeling Drew Barrymoore’s outfit, but I just adore her. I thought her pink and white Monique Lhullier gown was very whimsical, very Drew. She looked so happy. I thought it was a really fun dress! Another love!

Olivia Wilde also NAILED it in her skin-tight Gucci gown. It was a little reminiscent of Florence Welch’s Grammy dress last year, but I still thought that Olivia looked amazing in it. Few people wear a slinky sequin dress when pregnant, so I applaud her!

Maybe next time, Kerry!

I did not love everyone’s maternity look, however….Kerry Washington just did not do it for me. She is honestly such a perfect being that I can’t even really hate on her, I just was not feeling the cut of the Balenciaga. Her makeup and hair are fab, but the drab shade of her dress was not up to par with the rest of the attendees. I will say that my standards are sky-high for her since she always looks amazing, so we will give her a pass for this. What did you think of it?

I loved the long necklace with the plunging neckline. I don’t think stars do enough long necklaces on red carpets.

Amy Adams looked good. I wasn’t wowed, but I certainly didn’t hate it. She looked good.

The more I see it the more I dislike it.

Unfortunately Sandra Bullock was a huge disappointment for me. Sandra wore a color-blocking Prabal Gurung. From the top half, she looked great. Seriously everyone on the carpet had great hair and makeup- but from the top down….eesh. I really wasn’t feeling the high-low cut, or the big blue band across the bottom, or the fact that it photographed looking wrinkled. I’m pretty disappointed in her guys. Pretty disappointed.

Love, love, love her.

Another one of the most highly-anticipated stars on the carpet DID get it right though, and that was Jennifer Lawrence! The interwebs is making fun of her white Dior gown, but I thought she looked beautiful. The dark lip with the emerald earrings complimented the frock perfectly. She didn’t trip in it. A+!

A for effort girl!

I have a lot of really conflicted feelings about Lena Dunham. Girlfriend TRIES. Man, does she try. As you may know, Zac Posen used to babysit Lena Dunham when they grew up together in New York, so she almost exclusively wears Zac Posen on red carpets. I just want to ask her, ‘are you SURE Zac Posen is your friend?’ Because isn’t he known for the fit of his dresses? Why do they always fit her weird? I loved the color, I love that she really went for it and committed to a big gown for her big night. Honestly, I would probably wear something like this on a red carpet. I just hope if I did, it would fit me better. A for effort! I thought it was a step up from last year.

Stunning!

If I could have worn any gown on the carpet, it would have been Leslie Mann’s Dolce and Gabbana! She looked perfect!! So Hollywood, with her glam hair, perfect makeup, gold accessories. It fit her like a glove! She looked somehow both trendy with the peplum but still timeless. Beautiful!

SO-time for my Best & Worst! Hands down my Best Dressed was… Lupita Nyong’o! Of course she is on everyone’s Best Dressed list today, because from head to toe she was perfect. Her beautiful skin glowed, the makeup was FLAWLESS, the color of the Ralph Lauren on her was FLAWLESS. The 12 Years A Slave actress was a total goddess and owned the red carpet. Nobody looked better than her- absolute WOW!

No good. Worst dressed, Tom Ford or not!

Worst Dressed….has to be Hayden Panettiere in Tom Ford. The cut is not for a short gal. The hair looked greasey. Also I have no idea if this is true, but someone on Twitter said she bought her dress retail off the rack and that Tom Ford did not actually dress her…pretty embarrassing! The white cut out makes her look larger than she is, and that embellishment at the top is really strange. An overall mess.

As for the show, it was great! Aside from the awkward speeches where no one was prepared and the poor planning of the set up, it was pretty entertaining! Some crazy moments (Jaqueline Bisset, Diane Keaton singing nursery rhymes) coupled with some great speeches (Amy Adams, Cate Blanchette), the night was a success. Tina & Amy are unbeatable hosts. Mostly everyone I wanted to win won aside from Aaron Paul who truly deserved the Golden Globe for Breaking Bad. He was spectacular in the show, especially the last season, and he was robbed. But hooray for Leonardo DiCaprio!! He FINALLY WON! Hopefully this is just foreshadowing for an Oscar! Fingers crossed!

What did you think? Who was your best and worst dressed? I want to know!!
