Fashion Friday: Red She Said

Red lipstick is the most classic makeup staple that never goes out of style. Lately I have been forgoing my usual routine that includes multiple layers of shadow for a quick swipe of mascara and a bold red lip.

Taylor Swift and Gwen Stefani are two lovely ladies who have inspired this minimal yet chic routine, and I find that the look is somehow effortless and classic all at once.

It doesn’t need to be red carpet-only either! Both these ladies rock the red lips with a casual look on the regular!

I am a MAC girl, always have been, always will be, so my tried and true shades of red are all by MAC: On Hold, Red She Said (from a collection gone-by), and as of lately, Ruby Woo. On Hold has a perfect glint of gold, almost threatening to turn coral at any moment, while Red She Said is the perfect vamp classic red. Ruby Woo, however, is an adorable punchy red, full of a little more life than the other two!

For choosing a red, I suggest going to MAC and trying one of their many shades on, paying close attention to your skin-tone. I am constantly worried about my teeth not looking white enough, so I usually aim for a red with a blue undertone, I find those are the most classic-looking shades. Very Monroe. Reds with a more yellow undertone tend to take on a more warm, fun quality. Finding the right shade of red might take some time, but I promise you it’s out there! There is a shade of red for everyone!

Other than that my only advice is to keep the rest of the makeup minimal! Keep the eyelids very bare, just some long elegant lashes, and then sit back and watch the jaws drop!
