Top Five Things to Do In New York This Summer
New York City blossoms throughout the spring time with beautiful ease, until one day you wake up, and the city is ripe, juicy, and exposed for public consumption. New York City is amazing during any season, but there is something special that makes me crave a hot summer day in Central Park, or a nice breezey day shopping in the Union Square open air market. It’s to die! There are a few events in New York that I am putting on my must-do list this summer, and a few things I definitely want to do again!
1.) The High Line- this is God’s gift to New York City, truly! The High Line is such an amazing park that fits right in with the “only in New York” attractions. The park sits high above the streets of Chelsea along abandoned railroad tracks. I toured the High Line last summer, and I can’t wait to go back this year and soak up that city sunshine in only a way Manhattan can offer! To see pictures of my last trip there, check out my post on the High Line.
2.) Walking tour by Big Onion- I have heard great things about walking tours throughout Manhattan hosted by the Big Onion! I love history and New York, and I am itching to take one of their new tours, “Satan’s Seat, Prohibition in New York” for a while now! You can buy tickets ahead of the time off of the website, show up at the designated spot on the day of your tour, and have a blast being transported back through time to the roaring 1920s! This is definitely on my summer must-do list!! For more information on this tour, or any of the other amazing tours they offer, check out http://www.bigonion.com/tour/prohibition/
3.) Brooklyn Botanical Garden- Central Park has a special place in my heart, but for flowers and gorgeous winding paths through gardens, the Brooklyn Botanical is the place to go this summer. The Cherry Blossom Festival in April is my favorite, but they offer several different specialty shows throughout the summer. It’s only $10.00!
4.) Catch a movie in Bryant Park- Every summer starting June 18th, HBO sponsors a movie festival in Bryant Park. A giant screen is set up, and at 5pm every Monday night you can catch one of your favorite films on the big screen! I plan on making it to a showing this summer, and participating in one of those quintessential New York nights.
5.) Have a Drink at the Frying Pan- Going to a party on the newest NYC hotspot, The Frying Pan, is one of my best New York memories. The boat was packed, the drinks were strong, the sunset provided for incredible photos, AND I had a celebrity sighting. All in all, pretty perfect! I plan on getting back to Chelsea Piers for another party on this boat ASAP! I highly reccomend checking it out for the perfect New York City evening with friends!
