Inspired by: Travel Themed Interior Design

It’s been a bit too long since I mentioned what’s been inspiring me lately, eh? Let’s get back to some things I’ve been loving lately! As someone who travels, naturally I love maps! Vintage maps really get me inspired, and being on tumblr, I see them everywhere!

It’s really easy to use maps in your living room or bedroom instead of posters or regular art!

If you’re feeling really brave and inspired, maps also make great full size wall murals!

While maps are an obvious choice for travel-themed decor, other ideas include globes, and suitcases! Bravo celebrity Brad Goreski and his boyfriend collect vintage designer suitcases to decorate their house! There are photos in his book, Born To Be Brad, and it’s a really interesting conversation piece for any house.

A giant beaten suitcase with a thousand stories to tell could make a beautiful hallway table!

Tumblr and pinterest are both excellent sources of inspiration! Do you have any travel themed decor?

  1. Especially love the suitcase chair! Maps are getting really pricey if you buy originals, but you can get copies screened onto canvass that look great and cost a small fraction. Got old maps of Hoboken, Hawaii(big island) and Maui and had them screened and framed for Jenn and Sean’s wedding. Where they met, where they got engaged, where they got married 2 years later! Cost about 600.00 versus the 35K it would have for originals!

    • That’s such a great tip!! I also love the website, for printing images and canvases. They have canvas sales all the time! I just love maps as a great source of inspiration, and having little reminders about why I love to travel around the house seems like a great idea!! Thanks for always reading, Margaret!! : )
