Inspired By: Andy Warhol
This is a new feature to the blog that I am calling ‘Inspiration of The Week’. I will post random awesome finds/photos/or whatever I am inspired by for the week! This week is the Andy Warhol sculpture in Union Square, on exhibit for a short time!
This giant silver sculpture cannot be missed and is at Union Square until October 2nd. As soon as I passed it I knew it was a new monument, and the giant silver statue just radiates energy in the Square. I love the era of Studio 54 when all of these random celebrities that you would never expect to hang out would be holed up in some VIP corner, Truman Capote, Andy Warhol, Liza Minelli, Bianca Jagger, Diane Von Furstenberg, Grace Jones, Michael Jackson, all in the same corner! What a glamorous, destructive, decadent, over-the-top era. When I think of Andy Warhol, of course I think art, but then I immediately think of Studio 54. It was a time and place, like Woodstock or turn-of-the-century Paris, full of inspiration and art. LOVES.
What an out-of-the-box man who redefined Pop Art. While I always thought his screen print version of Marilyn always made her look like a drag queen, it has to be said that at least no one had ever done such art before.
Check out the sculpture if you’re in Union Square to see his likeness as a pop art genius!
